Ongoing Service
The Dublin Irish Festival - August 5, 6, & 7, 2011
The City of Dublin’s signature event takes place the first weekend in August & more than 1,200 volunteers are needed to make it happen. Volunteers serve in 60 areas of the Festival, including a 5K Run, Admission Gates, Ticket & Token Sales, Hospitality, Merchandise Sales and much more. We’ve heard it on good authority that once you start volunteering for this fun-filled Irish celebration-you’re hooked for life!
Learn about Irish culture, music and dance, history, special event production, customer service, and more.
Serve in one of many areas of the Festival, or cross-train in several of them. Volunteers are asked to give at least one four-hour sift during the event. Families are encouraged to serve together; volunteers must be at least age 12 to volunteer own their own.
Engage with hundreds of residents and volunteers from eight states. Meet entertainers from around the world, and be a part of giving “One hundred thousand welcomes” to more than 100,000 visitors to this premier event.

The City of Dublin Green Team and Parks Volunteers
Dig in, rip out, clear up, and understand how our environment is of utmost concern in and around the Dublin region. From planting seeds and plugs to seining water, the Green Team and Parks-related projects are a great way to do something healthy for yourself and our green (and getting greener) world.
Learn about our natural environment, native plant life, healthy water, recycling practices, horticultural assessment, bird life, wildlife habitat, local and organic foods, and more.
Serve throughout the year at various planting projects, invasive plant removal sites, water clean ups, Recycling events, build and monitor bluebird boxes, help at Farmers’ Markets, sustainability and educational events. There are opportunities for you to choose to volunteer from one time a year to once per month.
Engage with the community in a helpful way by participating in projects, meeting other area residents, central Ohio experts in green life, and help with teaching, promoting and living a sustainable life.
Dublin Teen Corps
Dublin high school sophomores, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to participate in Dublin Teen Corps, a unique summer experience combining local government learning with service to others. Students participate in hands-on learning about our form of government, government careers and processes. Each member serves as a volunteer in offices, at agencies or in our summer children’s camps. This self-led group also chooses its own group service projects & meets periodically throughout the year to discuss community ideas & initiatives at they relate to youth and youth engaged with government.
Learn about local government and local government tax structure, government careers, the public meeting process, City Council agendas, project planning.
Serve throughout the summer in offices, at children’s summer camps and group projects at various Dublin events. Teen Corps members are also encouraged to initiate their own group projects.
Engage with future leaders, Dublin teens, City staff & leaders, local elected officials, nonprofit agencies & the general public.
Recreation Services and The Abbey Theater of Dublin
Whether you live, work or play in Dublin, make it all the more fulfilling by participating as a Recreation Services volunteer. Dublin Recreation Services is an award-winning department that adds healthy habits and enjoyable programming to our daily lives.
Learn on topics from A-to-Z offered in our programming, explore & enhance your own skills as you put them to use working with seniors, parents, children & those with special needs.
Serve by assisting instructors, running classes, reading books in the children’s area or helping on special projects. In the Abbey Theater, volunteers, serve as ushers, or help with back-of-the-house duties such as lighting production and set building. There are opportunities to volunteer from one time a year to once per month.
Engage with the community in a helpful way by participating creating your own healthy habit of volunteering. More than 1,200 people per day use the services of our Recreation Center; be in the midst of the hub of things by helping as a volunteer.
Special Events & Parades
Strike up the band, provide information to our patrons, coordinate a children’s area, chaperone as a safety marshal, conduct surveys of our crowds, or greet hundreds of eager folks & families who come to enjoy our events. Volunteers by the thousands help to make events such as St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day, The Halloween Spooktacular, and one-day recreation, police and parks celebrations a reality.
Learn about safety practices, event production, recreation programming, customer service, and other cultures.
Serve throughout the year at all events or just one. Volunteers typically are needed to help with registration, safety, to conduct surveys, carry/guide parade balloons in our parades, and lead children’s activities.
Engage with City staff who make these events spectacular productions, as well as with the community, visitors to Dublin, various cultures and generations who come to enjoy our top-notch special event productions.
