This summer, the City of Dublin will continue its sidewalk replacement program. Dublin is one of the few cities in Ohio to pay for annual sidewalk maintenance. In most cities, residents are required to maintain the sidewalks surrounding their homes.

This program became official in 2004, when Dublin City Council approved funding for the repair of sidewalks where attention was required in the City.

This year, the City has budgeted approximately $125,000 for sidewalk repairs through its Capital Improvements Program. Work is scheduled to begin in Monday, May 18 and be completed by Friday, July 31, with the majority of the work completed before school starts in August.

Affected property owners will be notified. Door hangers will be distributed to homes announcing when a project will begin on their street. During construction, existing concrete is removed and replaced within three days. Full restoration of the property is made including backfill, seeding and mulch.

Research has shown that if the City continues to regularly address sidewalk repairs, the repairs will only comprise a small percentage of the overall street repair program. However, choosing not to repair sidewalks on a regular basis could lead to a large amount of costly repairs, as well as safety and aesthetic issues.
