Project Overview

Description and Benefits:
This joint project between the cities of Columbus and Dublin will reduce traffic congestion, improve safety and add pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Improvements include:
-
Adding one lane in each direction on Emerald Parkway between Tuttle Crossing Boulevard and Rings Road
-
Constructing roundabouts on Emerald Parkway at Lakehurst Court and Glendon Court
-
Adding sidewalks, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps, shared-use path, medians, signage, street lights and landscaping
-
Building new curbs, gutters and drainage facilities
Construction Schedule:
May 2012 - August 2013
Cost:
Estimated $8.0 million, including design, utility relocation, right-of-way acquisition, materials and construction.
Contact Information:
City of Columbus Construction Project Manager Joe Warino, P.E. | 614-645-0444
City of Dublin Engineering Manager Ken Richardson, P.E. | 614-410-4631
Construction Contractor: Complete General Construction Co.

Street Trees
In order to widen Emerald Parkway, we need to remove the street trees. Many of the street trees located within Columbus are Green Ash and are either dead or dying due to the Emerald Ash Borer. The construction project is scheduled to be finished August 2013. Dublin will plant new street trees within Dublin either Fall 2013 or Spring 2014. We believe Columbus plans on planting street trees after the construction within Columbus.

I read in the Dublin Villager newspaper earlier this year that the addition of another lane in each direction was only between the two roundabouts at Lakehurst Ct. and Glendon Ct. But this posting says the additional lanes are all the way from Rings Road to Tuttle Crossing Blvd. Is that correct?
Rings Road Posted on April 21, 2012
The City of Dublin will be the first ones I sue when I crash into someone trying to pull out from Rings Road and go north on Emerald Parkway. No intersection improvements there? Really?? Someone clearly had a lapse in thinking! And the liability will be squarely on your shoulders!

This is just bad. Insanely bad. Roundabouts are a horrible idea and a waste of money. Giving the amount of traffic that flows through the Lakehurst intersection during rush hours, putting a roundabout in is not going to help one bit. Sychronized red lights would be the way to go as well finding a way, if possible, to eliminate traffic getting on 270 North from backing up onto Emerald Parkway.

This is the stupidist thing I have ever heard of! No one will be able to get out at Lakehurst Ct onto Emerald PKWY. What a waste of $8 Million!!

I can't get left...look kids Big Ben, Parliament...!!!

This is a serious waste of 8 million dollars. Round abouts are not going to solve the congestion on this road. Did local residents at Britton Woods or any of the offices take a poll on this? Probably not, because I think the overall consensous would be absolutely not. I'd love to hear the justification for 8 million on this.

Are they going to provide crash helmets and racing harness?
Jason Manley Posted on May 02, 2012
Hi, The Emerald Parkway / Lakehurst Court Round-About is a total waste of tax dollars. The main issue with that intersection is traffic congestion at certain daily intervals coming from the left turn lane getting on to Tuttle. That's it. No real need that I can see as someone that has travelled this same path for more than a dozen years to put a round about at that spot. Thank you.
Tmcsaris Posted on May 02, 2012
Do you think that having stop lights is actually more efficient than these roundabouts? How is coming to a complete stop, then waiting for 3 other lanes of traffic to go before yours, a horrible idea? What about all the drivers now who think it's perfectly acceptable to turn through or go through red lights, just b/c they're at the tail-end of a line that just went through? I realize we have our fair share of roundabouts but they not only make the traffic flow more efficient, they help the environment when drivers are not slamming to a halt then gunning the gas to go.

I agree with everyone, people trying to leave the office buildings on Lakehurst will not be able to get onto Emerald Parkway. Why not just install a traffic light & synchronize the traffic lights all the way to the highway? Who is the moron who thought this up?

Yeah, this isn't a good idea... this area is a ghost town on the weekend. What a waste of money

It looks nice.
Florist Posted on May 02, 2012
Is this a joke? I have one heck of a time making the left turn on to Emerald Parkway from Lakehurst as it is. If I make a delivery after 4 PM I have to bogart my way into traffic and a roundabout is going to make that even worse. Is somebody doing a buddy a favor by granting him/her this $8 million contract? Sounds like politics involved. Someone needs to investigate.

I can see my car from here.
Want more trees Posted on May 02, 2012
Will you plant trees? It appears to be over 100 trees will be cut down. Are you planning to replace all of them? I would hope to see at least 150 new tres planted to replace what is being cut down for this project. It appears really ugly without the trees.
Traffic King Posted on May 02, 2012
I love roundabouts but agree these roundabounts are pointless. The main traffic backup during rush hour is caused by the intersection at Tuttle as well as the backup of cars trying to get on 270. Redoing the ramps onto 270 would have been a much better solution. As it stands now, rush hour traffic gets backed up past Worner Temple. Cars will be backed up through these roundabouts and render them pointless. One bonus is that it will get rid of the rediculous traffic cops.

I've been traveling this route since the CenturyLink/LiTel building was here. This is the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard. I agree that this is a huge waste of tax dollars. Do the Engineers not have enough to do without making the lives of those of us who work in this area more difficult?
Xclaims adjustor Posted on May 03, 2012
so now stupid people can stick there head out the window and go WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Work Off Lakehurst Posted on May 04, 2012
I get what they are trying to do - but traffic will still back up as we all turn left onto Tuttle to get onto 270 N or S. Traffic cops won't be able to direct traffic like they can now - to control a roundabout at 5:00 - they will need at least 3 - which I doubt will happen. So people coming out of Lakehurst will merge into the roundabout and block Emerld N-bound causing Emerld to N to back up and Emerld S-bound traffic is not exactly going to let roundabout traffic freely merge in - its continuous flow of traffice. A roundabout doesn't work with continous flows of traffic - go to Washington D.C. you will see what I mean.
Sue Posted on May 05, 2012
I have recently relocated from NJ. NJ has been extremeley busy trying to get rid of their traffic circles, because they do not work. Cars driven by people in the circles have caused some of the worse accidents in the state! Who would think this is a viable solution?
I'm Moving Posted on May 09, 2012
This is the dumbest thing i have ever seen. Between this, the shutdown of 670 E and the construction on 70 E and 270 S, it is as if the state of Ohio wants me to be late every day. Perhaps the state should stop hiring handicapped engineers to "improve" our infrastructure.
Quit Whining Posted on May 10, 2012
Quit your whining. Look at all the other roundabouts in the state and the city. They seem to be working. Most of you whiners cant drive anyhow, and when someone moves your food dish, you freak out and start crying. Wait till they put it in. Some of you will flow thru it flawlessly, while some of you will crash your cars and blame it on someone else, but that's because your just stupid, and society cant fix that. Quit whining.

Looks like I better make sure my car insurance is still active.....

It is currently under construction, so get your angry comments out of the way so that you will be calmer once it opens.
Cannot turn Left Now!!! Posted on May 10, 2012
I am unable to make a left turn as it is now to either one of those intersections, round abouts will not help the situation. Being new to Ohio, and have lived many other states, and this one has the worst light timing, it is a relatively small town there should not be traffic back ups like in Chicago. The money can be better spent on other improvements, traffic lights to start.
bobby bouche Posted on May 10, 2012
This is actually a great idea. Think about why the traffic backs up at Tuttle. It is because there are 2 lanes worth of traffic trying to get into left turn lane at Tuttle and no light at Lakehurst. If there is a roundabout, traffic is managed, and as a result less of a backup going left on Tuttle. It is not that long of a light as it is.
Disgusted Posted on May 10, 2012
Dublin Civil Engineers- and anyone who agreed to this "joke of a project"- ought to be embarassed and ashamed. This design is a needless expense and so out-of-touch with what really needed to be done. Couldn't you find something more worthy of 8 million dollars?! I'm sure this will go down in Dublin's history as one of the poorest attempts at solving a traffic problem- ever! I think that we will find that this project makes things WORSE for the people working and living on this section of Emerald Parkway! Fine example you are making of Dublin, Ohio.
IBMer Posted on May 10, 2012
Double the lanes = double the gridlock! Yay!
