Mary Kattenhorn Named Grand Marshal of the 2010 City of Dublin Independence Day Celebration

Mary Kattenhorn has been selected Grand Marshal of the 2010 Independence Day Parade and Celebration. As Grand Marshal, she will lead the parade and oversee the day-long celebration on Saturday, July 3.

“I am truly honored to have been selected to serve as Grand Marshal,” said Kattenhorn. “Dublin is a special place and I treasure the wonderful relationships I have made through volunteering.”

Most recently, Kattenhorn has volunteered for the Dublin Community Recreation Center, (DCRC). She has participated in community events such as Touch-a-Truck, Daddy/Daughter Date Night, Mother/Son Safari and Friday Night Drive-In. For the past three years, Kattenhorn has been involved with Dublin’s Preschool Open Gym program. The preschool program, located in the gymnasium at the DCRC, provides a safe, fun place for parents to engage in age-appropriate activities with their little ones. Kattenhorn assists the gym staff with program set up and enjoys spending time with the participants doing everything from building puzzles, to playing parachute games and kicking a soccer ball.

Since 1998, Kattenhorn has contributed more than one thousand volunteer hours with the City of Dublin. She has been awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award every year since 2005. In 2009, Kattenhorn was also nominated for the Outstanding Leadership Award as part of Ohio Parks and Recreation (OPRA) Awards of Excellence.

The Grand Marshal honor is bestowed annually upon an individual who has made a significant contribution to the City of Dublin through volunteer/professional efforts and has demonstrated patriotism through the development of community or community values. Kattenhorn was selected Grand Marshal by a committee consisting of past Grand Marshals and Mayor Tim Lecklider.

In her role as Grand Marshal, Kattenhorn will help judge the parade float decorating contest and lead the parade. During the evening celebration, she will also help judge the table decorating contest.

The 2010 Independence Day Celebration is set for Saturday, July 3 at the Dublin Coffman High School Stadium. The 25th Annual Sherm Sheldon Fishing Derby kicks off the daylong celebration at 8 a.m., followed by the annual parade at 11 a.m., and the Skyhoundz Hyperflite Canine Frisbee Disc Championship at 5 p.m. The Celebration at the stadium begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by a fantastic display of fireworks as the Grand Finale at 9:50 p.m.
